Last week I was contacted to make a video for a new Kanye West produced Jay-Z song for RED & the Global Fund to Fight AIDS in Africa. It launched today (World AIDS Day) at red.msn.com. And while I’m happy to be able to help the cause I’m also more than a little bit excited about getting a chance to make something for the likes of Jay-Z and Kanye. I’ve been turning down client requests to use Typographic Illustration for 5 years in hopes that one day the phone would ring and it would be Hova.

Of course Knaye sales this time around would be allot lower than “Graduation”, what with the poor economy, no “50 Cent vs Kanye West” hype, not to mention the his auto-tune induced, 808’s which are really 909’s singer/rap album is a complete three sixty from his previous work which may have thrown his fans off a little. None this less 443k is not a failure by any standard especially given our economic current slump.
Ludacris on the other hand sold half of what Kanye did in his first week even though from a Hip Hop stand point, Luda clearly has a better rap album. This could be a result of him not having a super hit record even though “One More Drink” is currently climbing the charts. None the less 212k is not a failure and if you heard his album you would know he still has a few tracks that could be big singles. He’s only on his second single so far.
So who’s album are you guys feeling more….

Voletta Wallace, Wayne Barrow and Mark Pitts (former managers), Lil’ Cease and many of Wallace’s closest confidants and business partners give recollections of their experiences during the filming of the movie. Voletta Wallace, mother of Notorious B.I.G. states in the article, “Maybe I’ll cry my heart out; maybe I’ll just laugh myself silly. I really don’t know what I’m going to do after I see the film.”

Street Fighter II has been remastered into HD for a release on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network. To commemorate the occasion, they put together the Street Fighter Underground Remix mixtape, with all the instrumentals sampled from the game (even the sound effects and the announcers!) East of LA has several more tracks from the soundtrack for download, including tracks by Hieroglyphics and Zion I.
If any of you are Street Fighter fans then recognize that this sample is from Guile’s stage in Street Fighter II, this is a ill same they eve used the sounds from when you select a fighter in the actual rhymes, shit is crazy.

50 CENT - 50 CENT HIT BY FINANCIAL CRISIS

50 CENT - 50 CENT HIT BY FINANCIAL CRISIS

Rapper 50 CENT is adamant no one is safe from the current global economic downturn - the crisis has already caused him some major financial problems.
The hip-hop star's new album, Before I Self-Destruct, was slated to hit stores in the U.S. on 9 December (08). But he was forced to postpone the release until early 2009, because of fears that struggling music fans will be reluctant to splash out on luxuries like CDs.
And the star admits the credit crunch has also begun to affect his investments, losing him "millions of dollars" in decreasing stock values.
He says, "Pushing (the album) back was to position myself a little better. I've lost a couple of million dollars already. I sit with my investors and business managers and accountants, looking at the numbers and I'm like, 'Yo, the values of stocks in different areas are decreasing.' So I take loss like everyone."

50 CENT, P. DIDDY, JAY-Z, KANYE WEST - I Get Money MUSIC VID - PTBTV

BEVERLY HILLS, CA - DECEMBER 5: Actor/rapper ...Image by Getty Images via Daylife

50 CENT, P. DIDDY, JAY-Z, KANYE WEST - I Get Money MUSIC VID - PTBTV

EXCLUSIVE / RARE / OFFICIAL remix for 50 Cent’s smash single, “I Get Money.” Starring 50 Cent aka Curtis Jackson, P. Diddy aka Sean Combs aka Sean John, Jay-Z aka Sean Carter, and Kayne West aka Mr. Graduate.

Rapper Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson tips his G-Unit-branded hat to Forbes on the remix of his latest single, “I Get Money.” Dubbed the “Forbes 1, 2, 3 Remix” and the “Billion Dollar Remix,” the song, which features cameos by fellow hip-hop kingpins Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs, is a boast over the trio’s top billing on Forbes’ recent list of the top earners in rap music.

“A lot of money on this record!” 50 Cent crows on the track, released Monday evening, which is based on the third single from his latest studio album, Curtis. It is the first collaboration among the three rap moguls, who each kick off their stanzas by gloating, “I run New York!”

Jay-Z holds the top spot on Forbes’ Hip-Hop Cash Kings list with 2006 earnings of $34 million, trailed by “Fiddy” (as 50 Cent is known to fans) with $32 million. Diddy nabbed the No. 3 spot with total earnings of $28 million. (See: ” Hip-Hop Cash Kings”)

True enough to the “Billion Dollar Remix” title, the trio—all native New Yorkers—boast sprawling Manhattan-based media empires with more than $1 billion in total gross sales of related merchandise.

Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter is the chief executive of Def Jam Recordings, a unit of Universal Music. He also owns the 40/40 clubhouse franchise, as well as a small stake in the New Jersey Nets. (Need we mention Beyonce?)

In addition to topping Forbes’ Hip-Hop Cash Kings list, Jay-Z also debuted at No. 9 this year on Forbes’ Celebrity 100 list of the most powerful entertainers, edging out industry heavyweights like Steve Spielberg and David Letterman.

Combs lords over Bad Boy Worldwide Entertainment, whose business interests include the Warner-backed Bad Boy Records, Sean John clothing label, a best-selling men’s cologne and a string of programs for MTV.

In an e-mail to Forbes about the single, Diddy wrote, “We appreciate the opportunity to trail blaze at Forbes.com, proving we’re not only the TOP earning entertainers but the TOP entertainment thinkers to come up with something as innovative as this.”

Since the release of his 2003 debut album Get Rich or Die Tryin’, 50 Cent has amassed a sizable fortune through his G-Unit entertainment portfolio, which includes a record label, clothing line, Reebok sneaker line, ring tones, video games and even a recent line of “urban fiction” published by a division of Time Warner (nyse: TWX - news - people ). (He spent his first royalty check buying copyrights to the G-Unit moniker.) In 2006, 50 Cent appeared on the cover of Forbes Magazine’s Celebrity 100 issue.

“This remix is more than a song, it’s a celebration and collaboration of hip-hop’s elite,” 50 Cent said.

This summer, rumors in the blogosphere suggested 50 Cent rival Kanye West might appear in the remix. Not so. 50 Cent has been embroiled in a well-publicized sales scuffle with Kanye West, whose latest album Graduation dropped on Sept. 11, the same day as Curtis. 50 Cent famously told reporters that if West outsold him, he’d retire from his solo rap career. (He later qualified the statement by betting West would suffer a massive drop off after first-week sales.)

Though an official tally won’t be available before Wednesday, early reports have West besting 50 Cent by at least 100,000 copies. But in the duel over who makes more money, 50 handily trumps West, who pocketed an estimated $17 million last year, roughly half of 50’s income.

West will have to sell millions of copies of his latest album, plus embark on a mega-successful worldwide stadium tour a la the Rolling Stones, to match 50’s estimated earnings by year’s end, even discounting his recent album. In May, Coca Cola (nyse: KO - news - people ) announced it would pay $4.1 billion to buy Vitamin Water, the bottled water company in which 50 Cent owns a stake. Fiddy’s estimated take from that sale, after taxes: $100 million.

50 CENT - 50 LANDS LOAN SHARK ROLE OPPOSITE BLETHYN

Retouched version of :Image:50-cent.jpg (cropp...Image via Wikipedia

Rapper 50 CENT has signed up to play a loan shark, opposite BRENDA BLETHYN, in a hard-hitting new British gangster movie.
The hitmaker, real name Curtis Jackson, is currently shooting scenes in London for Dead Man Running, a film about an ex-convict, who is given 24 hours to raise $150,000 (GBP100,000) to pay off Jackson's loan shark.
The film is being backed by English soccer stars Rio Ferdinand and Ashley Cole, who are among the project's executive producers.

50 CENT - 50 CENT BRUSHES OFF TRUMP'S 'COPYCAT' CLAIMS

50 Cent In BangkokImage via Wikipedia

50 CENT has laughed off real estate pal DONALD TRUMP's assertion the rapper's new MTV reality show is based on his programme THE APPRENTICE - insisting the ageing tycoon has gone "senile" if he thinks they're similar.
The In Da Club hitmaker, real name Curtis Jackson, recently launched The Money and the Power to find the next big business boss.
The show sees a group of contestants fight it out for the grand prize of $100,000 (GBP670,000) cash and assistance from the superstar to achieve their dreams.
But 50 Cent is adamant his programme is vastly different from Trump's The Apprentice, after the tycoon claimed the "copy" will fail "because it's not Trump".
The rap mogul tells MTV, "Donald Trump talking about my show and how it's a knockoff of The Apprentice? He's crazy!
"That's what happens when you get older - you start to view things differently. First, let me point out (my show) got the highest ratings.
"I said, 'What's the matter with Donald?' He's got a little age on him. He must be getting senile."
And the hip-hop entrepreneur also took the opportunity to hand out his own career advice to the property tycoon, adding: "In this economy, he may want to go sing 'In Da Club' instead of selling real estate!"

50 CENT - 50 CENT NOT WON OVER BY WEST'S NEW LP

Retouched version of :Image:50-cent.jpg (cropp...Image via Wikipedia

50 CENT - 50 CENT NOT WON OVER BY WEST'S NEW LP

50 CENT is unconvinced by fellow superstar KANYE WEST's change of musical direction - hinting the STRONGER star should stick to rapping instead of singing on his new album.
West sings throughout forthcoming LP 808s + Heartbreak with the help of Auto-Tune - leaving the majority of the rapping to guest stars Young Jeezy and Lil Wayne.
But former rap rival 50 Cent is not won over by the T-Pain produced project - although he concedes the idea is "interesting".
He tells MTV.com, "I heard, like, seven songs. There's a place for it. I think people will enjoy it if you're actually in love or going through something. I think Kanye's going through an interesting point in his career.
"I don't think the public will forgive (West) for it, but it's interesting. I think it's T-Pain's record, but I'd rather buy it from T-Pain

50 CENT urges fans not to take infighting between rappers too seriously, because it's in their nature to behave like boxers.

The In Da Club hitmaker has enjoyed high profile feuds with a number of his rap contemporaries.

But he insists there's no real hatred in hip hop.

Fiddy explains, "A lot of the back and forth you hear is just the competitiveness. Rappers condition themselves like fighters."

50 CENT - 50 CENT DELAYS ALBUM RELEASE

50 CENT has postponed the release of his new album until early 2009, so he can pack it with extra features.
Before I Self-Destruct was slated to hit stores in the U.S. on 9 December - but Fiddy wants to give fans better value for their money, and will add some extras, including a DVD about the life of his late pal Jam Master Jay.
He says, "Times are hard. Everyone is trying to make the most of what they have. I want to give my fans something extra for their hard-earned dollars. They'll get a free bonus when they pick up the album."
50 Cent isn't the only rapper making fans wait - Jay-Z and Eminem have already pushed the release of their new albums back to 2009.

50 CENT - 50 CENT'S HOLLYWOOD HOPES UNDER OBAMA'S REGIME

Rapper 50 CENT is hoping BARACK OBAMA's election victory will help his budding acting career - by striking a blow against racism in Hollywood.
Fiddy claims that, despite the success of African-American stars such as Will Smith, Samuel L. Jackson and Denzel Washington, there is still a black and white divide within the movie industry.
But he is hopeful the presence of a black man in the White House will help tear down some walls.
The star - who has appeared in movies Get Rich or Die Tryin' and Righteous Kill - says, "There's two Hollywood. There's white Hollywood and there's black Hollywood. Those lines are still there, but this is a step to getting rid of those lines."

50 Cent - "Get Up" 1st Single Out NOW!

50 CENT - 50 CENT LIFTED SONG IDEA FROM EMINEM :)

Hip-hop star 50 CENT sneaked a look through EMINEM's computer files in order to draw inspiration for a new song.
The In Da Club hitmaker is set to release his latest album, entitled Before I Self Destruct, later this year (Dec08).
And he has fellow rapper Eminem to thank for one of the tracks, after visiting his rapper friend at home in Detroit - and lifting some music from his PC.
He says, "I did a song produced by Dr. Dre. I got the production from Detroit, because Dre was working with Em right before I got out there. I just missed him. I went through Em's computer and found what I needed. Yes, I did.
"I got me the record I needed. I was like, 'Wait till they hear this'. I wrote it; Em heard it. He was like, 'You gotta keep that for yourself. This is too crazy.' First, I think he was gonna take it from me, then he was like, 'He gotta use that for himself.'"

50 CENT - 50 CENT + BETTE MIDLER LAUNCH COMMUNITY GARDEN

Odd couple 50 CENT and BETTE MIDLER teamed up on Monday (03Nov08) to cut the ribbon on a new community garden in the rapper's native Queens, New York.
Midler, a long time Big Apple conservationist, joined the rapper, and admitted she was a big fan, at the launch of the Foch Boulevard Community Garden.
Midler reveals her conservation group bought the site but needed a big name to help renovate the garden - and discovered 50 Cent, real name Curtis Jackson, was willing to help out.
At the launch, she told reporters, "We looked all over town for a group that was interested in these sort of things. We found G-Unity, which is Curtis' foundation. They were interested. This garden is mainly for kids, and they do a lot of things with kids."
50 Cent adds, "It's exciting. It was an opportunity for me to do something for the kids in the community.
"This a hell of a opportunity, for me to collaborate with Bette... We're gonna make it happen."

"One of the contestants aspired to be a rap artist, and he wrote his name on his shirt every day. I thought that was a smart idea. He wanted the $100,000 (GBP62,317) to invest in himself." Rap mogul 50 CENT refused to shun potential proteges while searching for the next big business boss on his forthcoming MTV reality show THE MONEY AND THE POWER.

50 CENT - 50 CENT OFFERS ADVICE TO WEST

50 CENT has urged rap "rival" KANYE WEST to look to him as a mentor - insisting it will help him avoid embarrassing incidents with the paparazzi.
West and his assistant were arrested following a scuffle at Los Angeles LAX airport last month (Sep08), when the rapper allegedly damaged a photographer's equipment.
Charges of felony vandalism were later dropped by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office.
But the In Da Club hitmaker is convinced West will learn to deal with snappers over time.
He tells the New York Daily News:, "You'll see artists like Kanye West, he recently had a little incident in the airport. After he's been successful for a longer period, he'll let that frustration go without incident.
"I've had enough time to get used to the fact that people might want to take my picture when I don't want it taken, but I accept it.

50 CENT - 50 CENT TO EXECUTIVE PRODUCE JAM MASTER JAY DOCUMENTARY

Rap superstar 50 CENT will serve as executive producer on a documentary chronicling the life of the late JAM MASTER JAY.
The In Da Club hitmaker, real name Curtis Jackson, has been recruited by filmmaker and the Run DMC star's cousin, Stephon 'Phonz' Watford to oversee Two Turntables and a Microphone.
He tells MTV.com, "Phonz was working on that project for five years. He came to me, and I shot my (interview) portion that's on the documentary. We met in Atlanta (Georgia) the first time and ended up shooting in Amsterdam (Holland)."
And 50 is excited to be involved in such an iconic and "intense" project, adding, "He was somebody who impacted my career - you can say in the biggest way. 'Cause in my career, I was just in the infant stages, developing my song structure around Jay. The first time I was in the studio, (it was) with intentions of recording songs for an album with Jam Master Jay. He taught me how to count bars. I could rap already. I knew what I wanted to say, but he was showing me how I had to get it out around the right time. (He would say) 'That sounds crazy, you have to say it earlier in this verse'."
But the rapper has his own theories about the murder of Jay, who was gunned down in his Queens, New York studio in 2002 by an unknown assailant.
50 says, "It's not a random act of violence. People just don't walk in your studio, shoot and kill you with several other people around, and no one knows anything. I believe the documentary sheds light on it - a little bit. It creates a clearer picture of what actually happened at that point. People just heard, 'Jam Master Jay got shot.' They don't understand the circumstances. (The film) creates some clarity."

50 CENT - 50 CENT HONOURED TO PAY TRIBUTE TO TROOPS

50 CENT leaped at the chance to perform at last week's MTV concert tribute to American troops - because he's still haunted by his visit to Iraq in 2004.
The rap superstar took to the stage at New York's Nokia Theatre Times Square on Friday (24Oct08) for the network's A Night for Vets: An MTV Concert for the Brave - to raise awareness of a petition for veterans' rights.
Speaking backstage, he recalled his trip to war-torn Mosul, saying, "It was intense, man. There was an intensity there. A lot of (soldiers) write these death notes before they go on missions; they write these notes that they want their loved ones to read. ...They're in this environment where death is everywhere.
"A lot of the people I met (in Mosul) had been there since my first record came out - they'd been there since 2003 - and you could tell, man. There was an intensity there."
And it brought the former gang member back down to earth: "It was eye-opening. It was like, 'You think you've had a tough time? ...These people have a tough time.' They're in this environment that's more intense than anything you could imagine."

50 CENT - 50 CENT AGREES CUSTODY DEAL OVER SON

Rap superstar 50 CENT has ended his long and bitter battle with ex-girlfriend SHANIQUA TOMPKINS after reaching a custody agreement over their 11-year-old son MARQUISE.
The star, real name Curtis Jackson, will now spend one weekend a month with Marquise, plus one month each summer; half of his spring and winter school vacations and alternate U.S. national holidays.
In a statement 50 Cent reveals he is "happy it's actually done with".
Tompkins insists she wants her son to have "a positive relationship with his dad".
The pair's long battle over Marquise intensified in May (08) when Tompkins' New York home was destroyed by a fire.
Tompkins and Marquise were inside the building, which 50 Cent had paid for, when the blaze took place. She claimed the rap star was responsible for starting the fire - a charge he has denied.
The former couple is due to meet in court in January (09) to settle a lawsuit over the house.

50 CENT - YAYO JOINS 50 CENT ON TV SHOW

Rap mogul 50 CENT is to be joined by his G-UNIT sidekick TONY YAYO on his new MTV reality show THE MONEY AND THE POWER - to keep his entrepreneurial fans in line.
The In Da Club hitmaker - real name Curtis Jackson - is searching for the next big business boss from a group of 14 contestants in the Apprentice-style programme.
The wannabes will live together in a Brooklyn, New York warehouse dubbed Camp Curtis, where they will try to prove that they are the most savvy and street-smart.
But Yayo isn't the only celebrity pal to join 50's show - the contestants will also get to meet LL Cool J, Lloyd Banks, and Aubry O'Day, formerly of Danity Kane.
And 50 insists the eventual winner will have to make a strong impression on him, because he has high standards to meet.
He boasts, "If it was just my image, I wouldn't have made this much money."
The contestants will fight it out for the grand prize of $100,000 (GBP54,055) cash and assistance from the superstar to achieve their music dreams.
The show will premiere on U.S. TV on 6 November (08).

50 Cent Announces ?Money & Power? MTV Reality Series Debut

50 Cent Announces “Money & Power” MTV Reality Series Debut

New York,

New York, NY (October 15, 2008) – 50 Cent (aka Curtis Jackson) was
the top earning rapper in 2007, earning an astonishing $150 million,
according to Forbes magazine. He parlayed a stake in Vitamin Water to a
9-figure payout and he continues to be the single savviest businessman
in the music game. As he puts it, “If I was just my image, I wouldn’t
have made this much money.” 50 Cent’s success is nothing less than the
American dream and this show is his coming out party as an inspiration
to a new generation of street-savvy entrepreneurs. His forthcoming
book, “The 50th Law,” co-authored with Robert Greene (”The 48 Laws of
Power”), will share the lessons he learned as a street hustler and how
those lessons allowed him to become the massive success he is today. In
“50 Cent: The Money and the Power,” hosted by and starring 50 Cent, he
will share these lessons with a lucky few. The winner, the young man or
woman whose ideas and drive make them worthy of 50’s support, receives
a $100,000 investment from 50 Cent himself. “50 Cent: “The Money and
the Power” will premiere on MTV on Thursday, November 6th at 10pm ET/PT.

“50 Cent: The Money and the Power” contestants worked together while
also living at “Camp Curtis,” a Brooklyn warehouse where they slept in
tents named after the five boroughs of New York City. The 14 wannabe
moguls, personally hand-picked by 50 Cent, compete in inventive
challenges that 50 Cent helped to create, while mastering the skills
that took the rapper from his hard-knock life to the top of corporate
America. Each week, 50 Cent will narrow down his search by testing the
candidates on the knowledge he has taught them while pushing them to
their limit. Viewers will be treated to special appearances by LL Cool
J, Aubrey O’Day of Danity Kane, Lloyd Banks and radio personality and
blogger Miss Info. And since no business mogul can work alone, 50 Cent
recruited his G-Unit label mate Tony Yayo to be his “Underboss” and
right hand man. Yayo kept contestants in line for 50 Cent throughout
series.

Ultimately, the last individual standing will, in 50’s eyes, possess
the strongest combination of business flair, strength, ambition, and
fearlessness to win the $100,000 and help achieve their dream and pave
the way to future mogul status. “50 Cent: The Money and the Power” was
mostly shot in New York City (in and around Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens,
etc…) and will have ten one hour episodes.

In addition to his record label, G-Unit Records, 50 Cent has enjoyed
enormous global success across a vast array of entrepreneurial
ventures, including videogames, books, clothing, footwear, beverages,
personal care products, automotive and more. 50 Cent is set to deliver
his fourth major label album, Before I Self Destruct
(Shady/Aftermath/Interscope), on December 9, 2008. Accompanying the
album is the gritty feature length film, Before I Self Destruct, which
50 Cent wrote, directed and starred in.

“50 Cent: The Money and the Power” is Executive Produced by 50 Cent.
Michael Hirschorn, Stella Stolper and Michael Bloom of Ish
Entertainment are Executive Producers. Sacha Jenkins and Gabe Alverez
are Co-Executive Producers. Chris Lighty and Laurie Dobbins of Violator
are Co-Executive Producers. Bruce Klassen is Supervising Producer. Tony
DiSanto, Liz Gateley and George McTeague are creative executives
overseeing project for MTV. “50 Cent: The Money and the Power” is
produced by MTV and Ish Entertainment.
